Description

Each creature in a 10-foot-radius Sphere centered on a point you choose within range must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw, or that target can't take Bonus Actions or Reactions and must roll 1d10 at the start of each of its turns to determine its behavior for that turn, consulting the table below.

At the end of each of its turns, an affected target repeats the save, ending the spell on itself on a success.

At Higher Levels: The Sphere's radius increases by 5 feet for each spell slot level above 4.

School Fit

Enchantment spells touch the place behind the eyes. They cannot move a target's body if the target has no body to move — which is why so many bypass undead and constructs. Confusion reads as Enchantment because the spell rewrites a sentient creature's intent or perception. Slots at level 4 arrive slowly through the campaign; Confusion earns its prep on the days it solves a problem.

Class Fit

  • Bard: At the Bard table, Confusion matters most when the College's signature features are on cooldown or out of charges. Otherwise the class has cheaper answers. 90 feet is enough range that Confusion doesn't pull the caster forward.
  • Druid: Circle of the Moon Druids spend most of their turns in Wild Shape — Confusion earns its slot only if the build expects to cast in humanoid form. Confusion's concentration requirement makes it vulnerable to a single failed save when the caster takes damage.
  • Sorcerer: At tier 1 a Sorcerer's known-spell budget is brutal. Confusion earns its slot only if the build cannot win the next ten sessions without it. Upcasting Confusion changes the effect; the spell page lists the per-slot scaling.
  • Wizard: Tier 3 and tier 4 Wizards add 5th-9th level spells to the book — Confusion interacts with those upper-tier picks as part of a full prep loadout. The higher-level scaling on Confusion is described in the spell text; check it before upcasting.
